In an age where healthcare costs are skyrocketing, who would have thought something as simple as a “twig” could help keep them in check? What does a twig have to do with healthcare? At Memorial Health, plenty. For over a half century, volunteers of the Memorial Auxiliary have played a vital role in providing much needed medical equipment, furnishings, and more. The individual groups within the Auxiliary are called twigs.
Each twig’s primary goal is to sponsor fundraising events and to create community awareness of our hospital and the services we provide. The money raised is used exclusively to benefit Memorial Hospital patients and their families through the purchase of items like new cardiac monitors, x-ray equipment, furniture, telephones, and televisions in patient rooms—just to name a few. In fact, over 50 years ago, one of the first contributions made by the Auxiliary was used toward the construction of Memorial Hospital. Since then, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been contributed by the Auxiliary to finance construction projects and other needs within the hospital and at our extended care facility, Memorial Gables.
The Auxiliary twigs sponsor several fundraisers each year, including raffles, jewelry sales, craft and bake sales, and more. One favorite fundraiser is the Auxiliary’s annual celebration held every November, the Festival of Trees.
By joining a twig or forming a new twig with your friends, you will discover a genuine purpose in helping others. Give us a call, we would love to help you find the project that best fits your talents.
Ongoing Auxiliary projects include:
- TV’s and cable service in each patient room
- Toys and coloring books for ER and Surgery pediatric patients
- New mom gifts
- Softies for mastectomy patients
- Staxi transport wheelchairs
